A 15 year old girl have birth to a baby, then stuffed the child in a knapsack and left him near a busy intersection.
The girl, whose name was not released by police because of her age, had put the baby in a knapsack and left him near a busy intersection after giving birth in an upstairs bathroom of her home, said Capt. Rick McGarril of the Bergenfield Police Department.
Captain McGarril said officers and paramedics heard the infant’s cries and found him about 11:30 p.m. among the papers and food of a public trash bin at the corner of Hickory Avenue and North First Street. They then took him to Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, he said, where doctors said yesterday that he was in stable condition.
Captain McGarril said the 15-year-old’s mother, who did not know the girl was pregnant, took her to the same hospital on Friday evening because she was bleeding.
A doctor determined that the girl had just given birth, but she refused to admit it or to say where the child was, Captain McGarril said.
First off, I don’t understand how the girl’s idiot parents could NOT have known their daughter was pregnant. Secondly, aren’t there places specifically where girls can drop off their unwanted babies without fear of punishment? And weren’t such places set up specifically to prevent this kind of thing from happening to begin with.
I say, the girl and her inept parents should all be locked up for good. Short of that, I say make the girl where a sign that says “I dumped my baby in a trash can” for at least five years.
