John Murtha is a Hypocrite!
James Taranto, in his Best of the Web column points out that after pushing for the U.S. troops to withdraw from Iraq, Congressman Murtha voted to stay the course.
The only Congressman who voted FOR Murtha’s proposal were Cynthia McKinney (D-GA), Jose Serrano (D-NY) and Robert Wexler D-FL).
Typical of liberals. They talk up quite a storm. But when it comes to action, they do nothing.

If the Republican leadership had actually allowed a vote on the Conressman Murtha’s proposal, he surely would have voted and in all likelihood, so would may other Democrats and even some Republicans.
That pretty well explains why the epublican leadership refused to vote on what Congressman Murtha proposed and instead set up a straw man substitute. They were afraid to let Congressman Murtha have an up or down vote on his proposal. It was the Republican proposal that went down to defeat.

Gerry: What exactly was Congressman Murtha’s proposal? You seem to be the only one with this conspiracy theory, because the MSM sure haven’t picked up on it. Sounds to me like the Congressman got the publicity he wanted, but ultimately showed where his heart is.

The Wall Street Journal has a good article on this issue today:

Murtha said in June 2004 that Iraq was “unwinnable.” By his logic, we should have pulled all our troops out of Germany and Japan by June of 1948! Of course we didn’t, but then again a Democrat was President at the time. This all makes me wonder what Harry Truman would think of his party.
Murtha’s proposal was absurd, calling for a six-month withdrawal with troops at the ready in neighboring Kuwait. Do you really think the Dems would ever want them to go back in? I mean, are you nuts? The Republicans did the right thing by reintroducing Murtha’s resolution. Let the Democrats vote up or down on what they really mean! Called their bluff, eh?
