Only Idiots Text While Driving
For the life of me, I just can’t understand why it is that people insist on texting, or yapping away on their cell phones while driving. What on earth is so important that they can’t wait to get home to discuss? If it’s an urgent matter, why not pull over somewhere? When you drive, your hands should be on the wheel, and you should be concentrating on the road. Why is that so hard for people to accept?
Anyway, the reason I bring up texting is this bit of news about a California celebrity plastic surgeon who died because he was too busy texting rather than paying attention to his surroundings.
A plastic surgeon-to-the-stars who sculpted some of Tinseltown’s most famous faces and boobs was killed when he drove his car off a California cliff while sending a text message, cops said yesterday.
Dr. Frank Ryan — a 50-year-old Beverly Hills surgeon best known for his repeated work on reality-TV star Heidi Montag — was pronounced dead after his Jeep rolled 200 feet down an embankment off the Pacific Coast Highway Monday afternoon.
I liked these comments on the article:
Losing a cosmetic plastic surgeon is hardly a tragedy. Losing one in the self-indulgent act of texting while driving has a nice touch of humor.
The world has lost a silicone Mother Teresa
No sympathy here . Just another case of , ” The rules don’t apply to me , I’m above it all ” I’m just glad he didn’t run into a station wagon filled with kids .
Such a same. So many more boobs need fixing.

Having grown up around hospitals (my father was a lab tech), I can tell you that doctors in general are not the gods many believe them to be, nor are they specifically the brightest bulbs in the pack.
I realize this is only anecdotal, but it really does capture the arrogance of a profession that has little to be arrogant about.

@Carlos: I agree about there being little to be arrogant about. These plastic surgeons make their living by telling women they’re ugly, and that *they* can make them pretty. If it’s just about women “feeling good about themselves” I’m curious as to why there are no female plastic surgeons. I also wonder what percentage of the work these doctors to is on people for example, who are burn victims, or who are breast cancer survivors.
