Judge Sonia Sotomayor – Disenfranchising Felons Is “Racist”
I’m not surprised that Barack Obama’s candidate for the position Supreme Court Justice has described her success as a product of affirmative action. Also, I’m sure you all remember how she openly stated that with the “richness” of her Latina heritage, she would make better decisions than white men.
So I don’t think anyone should be surprised that Judge Sotomayor believes that denying felons the right to vote while they’re still in prison is racist.
Sotomayor’s position came in a terse dissent to the 2006 case Hayden v. Pataki. The case argued that New York’s law barring convicted felons from voting until they are released from prison or complete parole is racist and thus unconstitutional. Its supporters made this argument on the grounds that “[m]ore than 80% of the New Yorkers disenfranchised…are Blacks or Latinos, who lose their right to vote at more than ten times the rate of other citizens.” Plaintiff Joseph “Jazz” Hayden, before he began his humanitarian crusade on behalf of the disenfranchised, was convicted in 1987 of stabbing a sanitation worker to death. Most Second Circuit Court of Appeals judges disagreed with him, but Sotomayor found Hayden’s objection supported by the “plain terms” of the Voting Rights Act.
As the saying goes, don’t do the crime if you still want to vote. Anway, moving along…
Judge Sotomayor also believes that capital punishment is racist.
Frankly, it’s not enough to go after Sotomayor for being a racist, as the spineless Republicans have been hinting.
Conservatives need to drive home the fact that Sotomayor, and other lefty elites are using America’s criminal underclass to terrorize working and middle class Americans, to ensure this country stays in the hands of Democrats.

You’ve almost written what the real agenda is, Zelda. The real agenda, contrary to all the love that flows from “progressives”, isn’t to improve the lot of the downtrodden. It has nothing, zip, nada, to do with that.
The real primary agenda is first to line up voters who are beholden to the government for their very existence, and never let them forget that. Their loyalty belongs not to the country, not to the party, but to the official who “helps” them most by keeping them on the reservation. If that means increasing those beholden to them by re-enfranchising those who’ve given up the right to vote by criminal behavior then, well, nothing’s perfect and the poor slobs hurt by such actions (the average John Q. Citizen) are just tough outta luck.
The second part of the agenda, almost equal to the first, is to make themselves feel morally superior. Note that they won’t in any way actually BE morally superior, but they will feel so, even in spite of the actual, measurable, true damage they do to various populations due to their candyland programs.

Isn’t admitting you’re the product of Affirmative Action admitting you’re not qualified? Isn’t Affirmative Action selecting an unqualified person to position because of their race or gender? Do we want this type of person on the Supreme Court?

Also, why is it that criminals and felons tend to vote Democrat? If they voted Republican, you can bet your life that Democrats would do all in their power to keep them from voting. The same goes for Hispanics. Democrats would have a 50 foot wall built to keep illegals out if Hispanics voted Republican.

BobF, a minor distinction but a distinction nonetheless. Affirmative action does not necessarily mean unqualified, it may in some cases even choose most qualified, but generally means the choice is not as qualified as at least one other applicant for whatever.
I think in this particular instance, though, “unqualified” fits the result of the choice extremely well. For all the libs howls of racism every time a conservative says anything about anyone not European male, she is an incredibly shallow thinker, an even poorer writer and a very deep racist/sexist. A prime example of wasted taxpayer monies in the drive to make everyone equally mediocre.

Well, the “richness” of her Latina experience and the “wisdom” drawn from it served her well again. She was just overturned one more time by the SCOTUS in the New Haven firefighters case.
Only in the alternate universe leftists and libs call home would you find one so unversed in what the Constitution of the United States actually says, and still believe she made a good decision based upon that Constitution.
