Obama Names Fidel Castro Attorney As White House Counsel

Obama has chosen yet another Clintonite, attorney Gregory B. Craig as White House Counsel.

Here’s some background on the man, and who he’s defended in the past.

Mr. Craig directed President Clinton’s defense team during the impeachment battle against the president in 1998-1999, and he briefly served as a State Department official in the Clinton administration. His earlier government work included a stint as a foreign policy adviser to Senator Edward Kennedy, whom he later represented during the 1991 rape trial of William Kennedy Smith, Mr. Kennedy’s nephew.

{snip}

Mr. Craig defended John Hinckley Jr., who tried to assassinate President Ronald Reagan in 1981, and was credited with crafting Mr. Hinckley’s successful insanity defense. And in 2000, he represented the father of Elián González in his victorious efforts to have his young son sent back to Cuba after Elián’s mother drowned in an effort to reach Florida with other Cuban refugees and after the boy’s Miami relatives mounted a battle to keep him in the United States.

Hot Air points out
that this is the first time a President has chosen a lawyer who defended an attempted a person who attempted to assassinate a sitting American President. He also lists more unsavory characters that Mr. Craig chose to defend.

# Kofi Annan – The former Secretary-General of the UN hired Craig to defend his interests in the Volcker Commission probe of the Oil-for-Food scandal, which put billions of dollars into Saddam Hussein’s pockets while providing cash for Annan’s son, his deputies, and some allege Annan himself.
# Pedro Gonzalez Pinzon – A Panamanian legislator wanted for murdering an American soldier in 1992. The Dallas Morning News demanded that Obama force Craig to drop the case during the campaign, but no report of whether he did is easily available.

Now I realize that most lawyers are slimy pieces of garbage. The fact that they freely choose to defend these bad people proves it, in my opinion. Now you might say to me, “But Zelda, everyone has a right to a defense,” which is true. But the fact that Obama chose a man with such a shady client list should just prove why he is bad news.
