Zelda?: I don't discount for a second that the U.A.E. is Muslim, and that the religion is important to them. What I do discount is that they are first and foremost Muslim, as opposed to, say, Saudi Arabia or Yemen.

When it will suit them (meaning, when it will make them more money in the long run) the rulers of the U.A.E. will turn on us like rabid animals. Whatever it takes to suave their incredible greed.

And that's my point. Right now, and for the foreseeable future, they know their pockets will be lined fastest and fullest with western-style capitalism. If Russia or China could offer more, faster, they would flip over to them faster than a prossy on the Vegas Strip. Greed, more than absolute allegiance to the prophet, drives them harder. Their souls are set there. For now, that's a good thing for us, as long as we can keep their lucre out of the hands of terrorists.

Carlos,

In principal, I would agree with you. But in terms of the UAE, I think there's a difference. You are right in that business and money usually come before religion. Then again, this is an Islamist theocracy we're dealing with. And DPW is owned by that very same theocracy. So whenever there is a government owned business, profit is usually not the priority

Also, if the UAE and the other Arab theocracies really cared more about their bottom line than about Islam, then they would have set up a capitalist sytem with all the freedoms that would include. But they don't. So that would lead me to believe that they are first and foremost, Muslims.

So, you're in favor of cutting off trade and business with China? They don't support the terrorists we think of immediately, but they support N. Korea, another of the "Axis of Evil", and several other terrorist states.

As does Canada. And Mexico, who happens to be waging a "quiet invasion" of our country for the express purpose of reclaiming lands legitimately lost in war. And the list goes on and on.

As I noted over at California Conservative, the U.A.E. will drop us in a New York second when they figure they can line their pockets faster by trading with the terrorists. But until they make that assumption, they will do very little to endanger the trade they have with us now because the bottom line is the bottom line, and they are, above all, business people first, Muslims second.
